The wax is used to obscure an image that was taken only as a snap to capture a sense of the moment and time I was in.  There is an extra layer needed to cover up something that is too clear in the image, and make it refer to my memory.  There is also a present structural quality to the wax that makes the photo an object and therefore brings that past time, the time in the photo to a present plane.
